In 2000 our not-for-profit organization, the Irvington Guild of Artists, was formed to promote the arts in the Irvington community while continuing a long tradition of resident artists such as William Forsyth and Clifton Wheeler. Our mission is to promote Irvington as a center for the advancement of the arts by educating, sponsoring art exhibitions and assisting the development of artists in their media. During the past six years we have succeeded in our mission through such events as the Collectors’ Show, monthly exhibits in local Irvington venues and our annual Walk in the Park Exhibit of Art. We have worked to promote art with our local youth through the School Art Salon and the Creative Arts Camp joint-sponsored with IndyParks. IGA has just placed our first piece of public art, “Monofly” by Tony Golden in the Shelley Shane Memorial Garden between the Legend Café and Edibles grocery, with the unveiling during the 1st Annual Irvington Art Walk.
